SIB Engagement Worker, Gateshead

Salary: £19,500 – £21,000 per annum

Working hours: 37 hours Monday to Friday

Contract type: Fixed term to end March 2020

About you

The ideal candidate will have experience of supporting people who have experienced multiple complex needs including homelessness.  They will be able to work as a multidisciplinary team as well as under their own initiative to engage and enable change in others. They will have experience of managing risk and challenging behaviour through a strong interpersonal approach as well as working to policy and procedure. They will also hold experience of understanding of how to work within professional boundaries, maintaining emotional resilience and a commitment to equality and diversity.

Changing Lives and Oasis Aquila Housing have partnered to deliver an innovative service for people who are rough sleeping and/or entrenched in homeless services across Newcastle and Gateshead. We have been supporting people in the North East since 1970, with services across Accommodation, Addictions & Recovery, Employment, Criminal Justice, Women’s Services, and Children & Families amongst other key causes; whilst having other exciting developments on the horizon.

About the job

The role is to work in and around Newcastle and Gateshead to provide proactive support and engagement to people who are rough sleeping or are entrenched in the homelessness system.  This will require you to build strong relationships with clients and to take an asset based approach to support motivation towards setting and achieving goals.  To enable people to achieve their potential you will be required to offer trauma informed emotional and practical support, as well as advice and coaching to develop behaviour change in the people you work with.  Whilst your focus will be upon supporting people to gain and sustain housing you will work within a multidisciplinary team to address the individual’s holistic needs.

Head of Housing (Properties) and Head of Housing (Quality), London or Gateshead

Salary: £34,000 – £38,000 per annum (+ London Weighting of £2950 per annum if London based)

Working hours: 37 hours Monday to Friday

Do you want to work for an organisation who are passionate about the work that we do and the people that we work with?  We are seeking to recruit two dynamic and ambitious people to two new Head of Housing posts.

Working closely with the Director of Housing and each other as part of the Strategic Leadership Team, the successful applicants will be pivotal in developing and leading the Housing Department of the charity.  They will have specific responsibility for our supported housing services; ensuring excellent and consistent support provision which is in line with the Oasis Aquila Housing ethos, values, policies and procedures.

The Head of Housing Properties will oversee our mixed-gender properties and the Maintenance Team and Social Lettings Agency, including the development of our property services.

The Head of Housing Quality will oversee our female-only projects and will be the organisational Safeguarding lead for Children and oversee the quality assurance of the department.

Both roles involve line management and budget management responsibilities. The successful candidates will also provide Christian leadership within the charity and its activities. Based in London and Gateshead, the roles will require regular travel to the North East/London.

The successful candidates will be qualified to NVQ 3 or equivalent with extensive and demonstrable experience as a supported housing manager including management and development of health and safety, finances, safeguarding, needs and risk assessment, personalised and holistic support provision. They will have a mature and flexible approach; excellent personal emotional intelligence and self-awareness, with an ability to work calmly under pressure. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build effective working relationships with other organisations are essential.

* The role has an O.R. to be a Practising Christian (Essential) (Employment Equality [Religion or belief] Regulations 2003 (Regulation 7 (2) a. and/or b (Genuine Occupational Requirement to be a Christian).

3 x Support Workers, Peckham and Croydon

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of our Service Users? About supporting young people and preparing them for increased independence? Do you have experience working in supported housing with young people and/or extensive experience of supporting vulnerable and/or challenging young people?

To join us you will need to demonstrate a holistic approach to support, and an understanding of the pressures facing young people, particularly those linked to homelessness. You will have the ability to engage and motivate young people, to use your initiative and work flexibly in a demanding environment.

We are recruiting a full time and a part time support worker in Peckham and a full time post in Croydon.

Oasis Aquila No.3, Peckham (*female only occupational requirement)

Salary: £21,950 – £22,950 FTE per annum – made up of: Basic Salary £18,000 – £19,000 per annum + London Weighting of £2,950 per annum + Anti-social hours payment of £1,000 per annum + Supplementary payment for sleep shifts

Hours: Full time role – 37 waking hours per week to a 4 week rolling rota, including ‘sleep in’ shifts. Hours will vary each week.

Part time role – 18.5  waking hours per week to a 4 week rolling rota, including ‘sleep in’ shifts. Hours will vary each week.

Fixed term contract to 31 May 2019 with the possibility of extension in accordance to funding.

Situated in Peckham, South East London, No.3 opened in 1990 and is funded by Southwark Council to provide supported accommodation to young people experiencing homelessness. 16 young women with medium – high support needs are accommodated at any one time. The primary age group is 16-21, however individuals are accepted up to the age of 25 on a case by case basis.

* There is an Occupational Requirement for the postholder in this residential project to be female (exemption under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1, Para 1)

Oasis Aquila Foyer, Thornton Heath

 Salary: £21,600 – £22,600 per annum, made up of: Basic Salary £18,000 – £19,000 per annum, + London Weighting of £2,950 per annum, + Anti-Social Hours Payment of £650 per annum

 Hours: 37 hours per week working to a 4 week rolling rota with unsociable working including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Fixed term contract for 1 year with the possibility of extension subject to funding.

The Oasis Aquila Foyer is accredited by the Foyer Federation to provide supported accommodation for young people experiencing homelessness aged 16-25. We provide holistic support, including one to one key work, Support Planning, Life and Employability Skills Workshops and opportunities for personal development. We’re seeking to recruit a Support Worker to join the team in providing support to young people across Stage 2 of the Croydon Youth Homelessness Pathway.

Become a Trustee of Oasis Aquila Housing
This is your chance to help shape and support the strategic direction of an exceptionally dedicated team of professionals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of those whom they serve.  Oasis Aquila Housing (OAH) responds to homelessness and disadvantage providing housing, support and other specialised services. For over 30 years the Oasis movement has been working across England and the world to transform communities so that everyone is included, belongs, and has what they need to fulfil their God-given potential.

The support OAH provides aims to develop life skills that will enable the young people we house to live successful, independent lives. Our projects operate in Gateshead and London, with plans for the expansion of our work across England. Board meetings are normally held at our Central Office in Gateshead, which is easily accessible from central Newcastle.

We are looking to recruit 2-3 Trustees to our small but influential & dynamic Board. Candidates should be passionate about our story, social housing and eradicating homelessness. We are particularly interested in candidates who may have expertise in one or more of the following fields:

  • Legal expertise
  • Theological training
  • Experience in the housing sector
  • Experience in the business sector
