Sage Foundation donate £1000 to support Oasis Aquila Housing

We are delighted to announce that today Leigh Thompson, Sage Foundation Manager of Europe, donated a cheque of £1000 to support the work of Oasis Aquila Housing.

Leigh visited Basis@336, our homeless drop-in centre, and Elizabeth House, our supported accommodation for young mothers and their children.

Leigh commented, ‘I’m really pleased that a chance encounter at the local Institute of Fundraising conference means we were introduced to the fantastic and inspiring work of the Oasis Aquila Housing team. During my visit I saw for myself how their brilliant facilities and programmes are helping those in desperate need. A shower, a cup of tea, targeted advice; these are just some of the powerful tools that the team use to start the journey of changing lives.

‘We’re proud that we can play our part in helping this fantastic charity open their Basis facility in Sunderland and we’re excited to see where the partnership can go from here.’

David Smith, Chief Executive of OAH, said, ‘We are so grateful for the support of Leigh and Sage Foundation. Their donation will significantly contribute to our work on Basis Sunderland, which will impact the lives of many homeless and struggling people in Sunderland.’

The generous donation from Sage Foundation will be used to support the opening of Basis Sunderland, our second homeless drop in centre which will open in November. A Crowdfunding page will be launched alongside the opening.

Basis Sunderland is based on the model of Basis@336 in Gateshead, our resource centre that offers support and practical services to the homeless. By opening another centre in Sunderland we hope to support more homeless people into accommodation and reduce rough sleeping in Sunderland as well as Gateshead.

At Basis@336, service users can make use of shower and laundry facilities and have breakfast and a hot cup of tea. Staff are on hand to assist with issues associated with homelessness and can offer information, advice and guidance on a range of issues including benefits advice and support as well as referral to specialist services.

Sage Foundation is committed to taking action to build sustainable social, economic and entrepreneurial opportunities in local communities. They help disadvantaged communities in all 23 countries they operate in and are heavily connected with Gateshead.

Their vision is a world where all people and communities thrive because they are living with economic stability and social equality. Their mission is to transform lives by investing time, money, expertise and technology to create sustainable social, economic and entrepreneurial opportunity in local communities around the world.
