Elizabeth House provides supported accommodation for young women and their pre-school children and young pregnant women aged 16-25, in Gateshead. 24-hour support is provided at the project for families who are at risk. The young mums who come to Elizabeth House can have medium to high level support needs. Approximately 50% of the families housed at Elizabeth House have experienced domestic abuse and typically over 70% of the children are subject to Child Protection.
The aim of Elizabeth House is always to resettle mum and child together into their own accommodation, building capacity within the family unit to live safe and healthy lives. Staff walk alongside the mums as they settle their children into positive routines, learn to parent positively, build self-confidence and develop resilience themselves. Each resident has a main support worker who will meet them weekly for support sessions as well as being available through the day.
